Field Hospital

Saturday after Ash Wednesday 2019 (readings)

Today’s Gospel is a great reminder that God did not send his only Son to save those who already think themselves saints, but rather to save the sinners; you and I.

That’s why he established the Holy Catholic Church, as a field hospital for those wounded in this battle between heaven and hell.

It’s only through the sacraments that Christ has offered through his Church that we can be healed; regular reception of the Most Blessed Sacrament, and regular Confession are the rungs on the ladder by which we might ascend to heaven. We must not neglect them; as they are the tried and true method of the former sinners, the current Saints, that now reside with God.

My brothers and sisters, we can’t stumble into heaven; if we want it, we must pursue it.
